Ettinger Engineering provides HVAC, plumbing, electrical, fire protection, site grading, and drainage design services for new and existing buildings, as well as civil engineering and sustainability consulting. Because this work is fee-based and often recurring, maintaining strong, direct relationships with real estate developers, building owners, and architects is central to the firm’s business model.
With that focus in mind, Eric Ettinger, president of the firm, looked to connect with a particular building owner, and turned to fellow NY Alliance members Frank and Greg Fortino for assistance. Because Frank and Greg Fortino are with Metropolis, a zoning and code consultancy, they work closely with developers and building owners, and regularly advise them on complex regulatory matters. Leveraging those relationships, and already knowing this building owner, Frank and Greg made a direct email introduction and personal recommendation for Eric.
The Results
The referral led to prompt phone discussions, a submitted proposal, and a successful engagement within two months. The initial assignment has since developed into repeat business, with individual projects typically generating $10,000 to $20,000 in fees. The experience demonstrates the power of the NY Alliance and how members’ complementary practices create meaningful opportunities through trusted referrals.
